70 years ago, everywhere in Germany synagogues and other Jewish
institutions were destroyed. This also happened in Buttenhausen, where
the synagogue, which was built in 1796 and enlarged from 1871 to 1872,
was burned down. During the year some arrangements in remembrance of
the so-called „Reichskristallnacht“ will take place.
• On April 26th the exposition
“Erinnerungslandschaft” (Landscape of Remembrance) will be
opened in the ancient Bernheimer-Realschule, with works of the artist
Helga von Loewenich from Berlin.
• In autumn the theater company
‘Zerberus’ from Freiburg/Breisgau will show the play
“Golem” which refers to the destiny of the Jewry. The event
is organised together with the Volkshochschule.
• A commemoration ceremony of the anniversary of
the destruction of the synagogue in the Mühlsteige will be
organized by the town administration and the congregation.
