International Day of Remembrance of the Holocaust on the 27th Janurary 2008

About 40 visitors met at the memorial for the victims of the holocaust in the center of the village Buttenhausen at 6 pm. In a short speech Ortsvorsteher Rudolf Schustereder recalled the murderous deeds in the conzentration camp Auschwitz, whose liberation by the Soviet troops on the 27th  January 1945 was the reason for this day of remembrance.

The event was continued in the St. Michael’s church. This year Pfarrerin Marlies Haist especially reminded the congregation of the Jews from Buttenhausen who put an end to their lives before their deportation. The names of Rosa and Selma Levi, Elisabeth and Moritz Lindauer, Max Kaufmann und Antonie Österreicher were read out.

In Buttenhausen, the centuries-old Jewish feasts aren't observed and the prayers aren't said any longer. So it was all the more very moving, when Dilek Weißstern of Buttenhausen sang the 'Sch'mah Israel' (Listen Israel) in the St. Michael’s church.

The choir of Buttenhausen accompanied the commemoration with further contributions. Finally Münsingen’s mayor Mike Münzing spoke about the difficult way of forgiving and about the impressing contacts which already excist with many Jewish people in the world.
