Dear guests of “Museum Buttenhausen“,

On our homepage you have been able to read about our program for 2008 for some time. The destruction of the synagogue in Buttenhausen on 10th November 1938 is the reason for a series of events this year, which shall keep alive the remembrance of this day. An exhibition and a play give access to the Jewish past from an artistic point of view. A commemoration for the anniversairy of the burning down of the synagogue takes place together with Buttenhausen’s parish community on the anniversairy of the so-called “Reichskristallnacht”.

After two Jewish cemeteries were vandalized just in Baden-Württemberg in 2007, this recall is more important than ever.

In Buttenhausen individual people like Walter Ott contribute to keeping the remembrance of the Jewish community against defamation and oblivion.

This year we look forward to welcoming the members of the study group “Alemannia Judaica” in Buttenhausen. It is encouraging that this group, which represents different organisations for Jew studies in southwestern Germany, Switzerland, Austria and France, comes to the Lautertal for the first time.

You will be informed about this event and all other news as usual on our homepage. Pupils of the Gymnasium Münsingen will provide the translation of the texts into English again this years.
